What Is Conscious Dating? A Mindful Approach to Finding Lasting Love
By Amie Leadingham, Master Certified Relationship Coach, certified in Conscious Dating® through the Relationship Coaching Institute
The short answer
Conscious Dating® is an intentional approach to dating. Instead of leaving love to luck, chemistry or the apps, you get clear on who you are, what you need in a partner, and the patterns that have held you back. Then you date on purpose. You become the chooser, not someone waiting to be chosen.
The method was developed by the Relationship Coaching Institute, where I trained, became certified and later served as Lead Mentor Coach and faculty. It’s the foundation of all my coaching.
Why it works: unconscious vs. conscious dating
Conscious Dating® is about being intentional with dating. Instead of following chemistry and hoping for the best, you get clear on the limiting beliefs that create blind spots in love, learn to spot red flags early, know your relationship non-negotiables, and create a vision of your ideal relationship and partner. The result is different because your choice is different: a partner who can actually meet your needs.
| Unconscious dating | Conscious Dating® | |
|---|---|---|
| How you date | On autopilot, led by chemistry and hope | Intentionally, with a clear plan and purpose |
| Limiting beliefs | Hidden, creating blind spots in love | Named and cleared, so you see people as they are |
| Red flags | Missed, or explained away | Spotted early and taken seriously |
| What you need | Vague, or set aside to keep the peace | Defined as clear relationship non-negotiables |
| Your future | A “type” that keeps repeating | A clear vision of your ideal relationship and partner |
| The result | The same heartbreak with a new face | A partner who can meet your needs |
The core ideas
- Know yourself first. Understand your values, your relationship history and the beliefs you carry about love.
- Uncover your patterns. Most dating problems come from old programming, such as rescuing partners, settling or avoiding closeness. Once you see a pattern, you can change it.
- Create your relationship vision. Define what a good relationship looks like for you, not what you’ve been told it should look like.
- Know your non-negotiables. Separate your must-haves and deal-breakers from your preferences, so you can screen people early.
- Be the chooser. Date with intention: decide who gets your time, and walk away early from what doesn’t fit.
- Build healthy habits for partnership. Clear communication, healthy boundaries and the confidence to ask for what you want.
My story with Conscious Dating
For years I struggled with dating and online dating. I kept choosing people who couldn’t give me the relationship I wanted. When I discovered Conscious Dating, I finally saw my own patterns. My “dating picker” had been broken.
I did the work and started dating with intention. Soon after, I met my husband, Kevin, on a dating app. Eight months later, we were engaged. Now I teach the same approach to singles everywhere.
What Conscious Dating looks like for clients I work with
Dr. America Revere had been single for five years, cycling through failed dates and situationships. Conscious Dating helped her see an avoidant relationship style and limiting beliefs she’d never noticed. Within two months of finishing my Path to Love program, she met a partner who matched everything she had defined.
Watch her video testimonial here.
“Dating after going through the conscious dating program, dating was far better than before! I was able to identify the wrong people much faster, and it made finding the right people much more obvious!”
— Joseph Cruey

Conscious Dating FAQ
Is Conscious Dating the same as mindful dating? They’re closely related. Mindful dating means being present and intentional. Conscious Dating® is a structured method built on those ideas, with specific steps for self-awareness, relationship vision and choosing a partner.
Do I have to stop using dating apps? No. Conscious Dating works with apps and in-person dating. It changes how you use them: who you pick, how you screen, and how quickly you move on from poor fits.
Is Conscious Dating therapy? No. It’s a coaching approach focused on your present choices and future goals. If deeper healing is needed, it works well alongside therapy.
How long does it take? My programs take anywhere from 8 weeks to 6 months. Many clients notice they’re choosing differently within a few weeks.
How do I start? Through my Path to Love group program, private coaching, or Conquer Online Dating program. The first step is a free Relationship Readiness Review.
