How to Handle Online Dating During the Holidays

If you’re single during the holiday season, you’re not alone. For over 15 Christmas’ and New Year’s Eves, I was successful at being single too; always a bridesmaid, never a bride. I know how frustrating it can be to see all the happy couples exchanging gifts and affection while you’re feeling isolated and lonely.

What makes being single during the holiday season all the more frustrating are the endless array of parties, family obligations, and the constant barrage from media showing happily coupled men and women exchanging gifts and unnatural affection. No wonder many of us feel more alone in the winter than at any other time.

According to a survey by dating.com a few years ago, 75% of 21-40-year-old participants said they experience a feeling of isolation and loneliness during the winter months.

The question that might be percolating in your mind is, should you skate onto the frozen tundra of this dating landscape or wait until after the near year when things thaw out?

Although dating during the holiday season has its pitfalls, it is a perfect time to continue your hunt for that special someone. Smart singles are dedicated singles who keep their eye on the prize and treat dating not as a chore but as a means to an end… finding true love.

Loneliness is a feeling we all experience at some point in our lives.

Feeling isolated and alone can be debilitating, whether it’s after a breakup, loss of a job, or moving to a new city.

It’s essential to remember that you are not alone in feeling this way and that there are things you can do to combat the feelings of loneliness. One way to do this is to treat dating like any other goal.

Set smaller weekly goals, like responding to one online connection a week or going on a date a month, and keep your mindset focused on the prize: finding companionship and love.

It’s also important to remember that loneliness is temporary.

Eventually, if you keep putting yourself out there, you will find the happiness and connection you are looking for by taking action. Not to mention that statistically, your dating pool expands during this time.

It’s true. A recent survey by the popular dating app Coffee Meets Bagel found that people are more likely to think about dating during this time and report an increase in dating app usage.

Other dating sites also indicate an increase in traffic, culminating with the Super Bowl Sunday of dating on the first Sunday after New Year’s when more singles jump online to date than any other day of the year.

This alone may not be a reason to get up off the couch to go on what may be yet another failed connection, but more fish in the proverbial sea does give you better odds at catching the one that’s right for you.

There are also unique winter opportunities for you to undertake on the dating front. Ice skating, sledding, or snowman building can each be a pleasant and fun diversion from the warm weather alternatives.

Holiday parties are a great place to meet prospective partners and offer perfect opportunities to screen them in or out of your life. Since oft-important core values like how they treat family, friends, and their community are center stage.

In my most recent video I share even more ways to find love during the holiday season. You can watch it here!

The holidays are a hectic time for everyone, and it can be easy to let dating fall by the wayside.

However, as a dating coach, I encourage my clients to continue to date during the holiday season just as they would any other time of year.

And most recently, it proved very fruitful for two of them. Over the last few years, I have had clients meet their significant other in the chilly winter months.

These love connections were not happy accidents or moments of fate; they were made because my clients stayed the course and used their dating fundamentals to attract and screen the best partner possible.

And the best part is, if you continue on that path to finding true love, you can too. If you haven’t grab my free eBook today as I share my most powerful tips for love in there! So this holiday season, don’t get caught up in the hustle and bustle; make time for dating, and you may just find your very own Christmas miracle.
